Justin Langer joins the retirement list

Australian top order batsman Justin Langer made a decision of joining the Aussie retirement list which also includes legends like Glenn McGrath, Shane Warne and Damien Martyn. Langer is set to retire from test cricket after the last Ashes test at Sydney. Langer’s retirement will bring an end to one of the most successful test cricket partnerships which he shares with Matthew Hayden at a splendid average of 51.62 runs/innings in 62 matches.

Langer said that he was fortunate to have played with the World Champions Australia. “Everyone keeps saying ‘you’ll know when it’s time’. Well, at one o’clock two days ago I knew it was time - it just came to me.” he said.

Humiliated yet again

The England team failed yet again at the last and final test of the Ashes series against Australia. They were bowled out for only 159 runs in the first innings while the Aussies went on to make a massive 419 spearheaded by Matthew Hayden and Andrew Symonds. The second innings (follow-on) didn’t look too good for the Englishmen either as they got bowled out only for a petty 159 runs with all of their key batsmen failing to perform once again. As a result, Australia went on to win the 4th test along with the Ashes series with a score of 4-0. The Aussies are also looking to change the score to a massive 5-0 series win with the next & final test starting on Tuesday at Sydney.

700 wickets for Shane Warne

Soon to retire, Aussie spin king Shane Warne picked up his 700th wicket at Melbourne, Australia against England. He was at a magical 699 wickets at Perth in the previous test against England. Every time Warne swung his arm to bowl to the English batsmen, the crowd went crazy for the magical 700th wicket.

The 700th victim of Shane Warne was none other than England’s Andrew Strauss who had been struggling against the legendary Warne in the previous tests too.

Warne is currently ahead of Sri Lanka’s Muttiah Muralitharan who is currently at 674 test cricket wickets.

Gilchrist needs just 3 sixes

The Australian wicket-keeper and explosive batsman, Adam Gilchrist who is known for his aggressive style of playing cricket is now just 3 sixes away from becoming the first test cricket player to hit 100 sixes within a career. He is currently ahead of Brian Lara of the West Indies cricket team who has hit 87 sixes in a span of 131 matches.

During a training camp at the Academy when he was in an under-17 squad Gilchrist was singled out because he hit too many boundaries. “One of the coaches dissected an innings that each of us played during a match and the feedback I got was that they were disappointed because I hit 24 with six fours,” he told The Australian. “The impression I got was that they were disappointed I didn’t rotate the strike and pick up ones and build an innings. McGrath will retire after the WC

After having not said anything about retirement plans yesterday, Aussie fast bowler Glenn McGrath has confirmed that he would be playing his last test at Sydney to end a fabulous and long lasting cricket test career.

Although he also has plans of making it to the World Cup and then eventually leaving ODI cricket too after he guides the world champions in the tournament. This would be his third consecutive appearance in a Cricket World Cup tournament. His career best also the World Cup best figures have been 7 wickets for a mere 15 runs against Namibia. His 342 wickets are the most by any Australian bowler and he is sixth on the overall list.

“The plan I had come up with Shane was he would go before Melbourne and me before Sydney, but with the hearsay and the scrutiny we wanted to get it out of the way,” he said at the MCG’s indoor nets. “Trying to deny about retiring is a bit tough, I’ve always been honest.” (Cricinfo)

Shane Watson to be fit for WC

Melbourne: All-rounder Shane Watson has vowed not to let his latest hamstring injury keep him out of the Australian side for the next year’s World Cup in the West Indies.

Watson will fly to Melbourne to see Cricket Australia team doctor Trefor James and physiotherapists about how to deal with the injury, a report published in The Age said on Wednesday.

MacGill to stay for another 3 years

Australian spinner Stuart MacGill a.k.a the rival of Shane Warne has confirmed that he has no plans to retire until next 3 years and the shocking decision of Shane Warne to quit Test Cricket has not influenced him one bit.

“I’m going to be playing every game with the intention of preparing myself so if the opportunity arises to play for Australia, I’m the guy,” he said in The Australian.

McGrath & Warne to retire

Australian bowling greats Shane Warne and Glenn McGrath will end their cricket Test careers after this Ashes series, The Australian Nine Network announced on Wednesday. It was reported that Warne will confirm today he’ll retire after the fifth and final test in Sydney. McGrath is supposed to announce his decision later.
